Wooden Toy Kitchen

Seems like so many toys these days are made from plastic, metal or inferior materials and they simply don’t hold up.

So when I went to buy a play kitchen for my two youngest daughters, I knew I wanted something different.  Something unique, creative and cute.  I chose a wooden toy kitchen, instead of the popular plastic kitchens of that time.

I love this vintage red kitchen (shown left); because it’s retro and different!  But there are wooden toy kitchens to suit any taste or style your little one could dream of.

What type of toy kitchen do your children have, or did YOU have?  Share your toy kitchen stories below in the comments.

Presents for Children: the “Saturday Present”

My parents started the tradition of the “Saturday Present”; which simply means a gift given for no particular occasion or reason, and was usually purchased on their Saturday shopping day. Thus dubbed the “Saturday Present”.

These presents were bought out of love, and because they saw something they knew I would love.  Rarely was the gift large or really expensive – it was the thought that counts. It’s fun to give and to receive!

Buying presents for children, for no reason, might seem like spoiling them; and it would be if you did so all the time.  But the occasional gift given as a reward for doing well in school, having a good attitude at home, keeping their room clean or simply because you love them, is not spoiling them!  It’s rewarding them.

“Saturday Present” Suggestions

Here’s a few ideas for you:

  1. Matchbox cars
  2. board games
  3. books
  4. videos
  5. doll clothes (i.e. Barbie, American Girl, etc..)
  6. LEGOs
  7. model car
  8. sewing or craft kit
  9. take them out for an ice cream or their favorite meal
  10. a day at the zoo or park

These special gifts need not be big or expensive, but should be something your child would enjoy. Be creative and have fun!

Leave a comment below if you have you ever given a “Saturday Present”!

Best Toddler Toys: Mimicking Monkey by Cloud B

My grandson loves monkeys! This one isn’t your usual stuffed monkey, it makes noise! (yeah, I know another toy that makes noise. That’s the kind us Grandma’s get to buy. ;) )

Check out these cool details….

Mimicking Monkey’s unique dual track voiceover option allows you to record personal messages along with each sound to perfectly transform your child’s play, relax or bedtime environment. Familiar voices and soothing sounds are proven to calm the mind in order to help children achieve a more peaceful, deeper sleep. Record a soothing message to your child and help ease separation anxiety. Read Mimicking Monkey’s storybook and listen to beautiful sounds as your child slowly drifts away into a peaceful slumber.

I love that you can record your own sounds! I can see my grandson recording his own monkey sound. ;)

Check out the Cloud b Mimicking Monkey.

Legoland in Florida Opens Today!

My 12 year old son is an absolute Legos nut!! He especially likes the Star Wars Lego sets. He doesn’t know it yet, but there’s now a brand new Lego amusement park in Florida!

Legoland Florida opens its doors to the public in the crowded theme-park market that is Central Florida on Saturday. Here are a few of the ways, big and small, that the Winter Haven attraction is designed to stand out.  [Source]

Lego_SalesDeals_125x125How cool is that?!

While we live far away from Florida, we will definitely be making plans for a Florida family vacation to visit Legoland.

Until that family vacation trip, I’m already planning for Christmas and Legos are definitely on the gift list for my son.
